Great news – I just got a new job! In this economy it's surprising that it only took me 2 1/2 months to find the perfect job doing exactly what I want to do.

While I was looking for a job, I included Toastmasters on my resume and my LinkedIn page. Every single person I talked to asked me about Toastmasters. No joke, every single person who saw my resume asked about my Toastmasters membership.

Based on my experience, I highly recommend adding your membership to your resume if you want to stand out in the job market and have a memorable topic to discuss in your interviews.

I can’t say for certain that Toastmasters will get you hired but it sure is an excellent conversation starter.

Re: Is Toastmasters On Your Resume?

Priscilla, any recommendations on how to "slip" my membership in Toastmasters onto resumes? I'm trying to figure out where/how to insert it into mine and I'm not having any luck. Thanks, Sean

Re: Is Toastmasters On Your Resume?

Sean,

I recommend adding a "Professional Memberships" or "Interests and Hobbies" section to the bottom of your resume, but we do have a few other members in our group who could give you professional advice. We have more than one executive recruiter in our group and Meg Matteson (one of our Distinguished Toastmasters who has completed the first manual and is on advanced speeches) is currently working at a career transitions center helping people who are experiencing a career change.
